FOOD & HORTICULTURE

Community Orchard

Crowborough Community Orchard is a community-led project created in partnership with Ashdown School, transforming a former school playing field into a shared orchard and learning space. The orchard will be used for forest school activities as well as providing a place for local people to come together to plant, care for and enjoy fruit trees.

The project supports biodiversity, helps capture carbon and provides locally grown food with zero food miles. It also offers opportunities for people of all ages to spend time outdoors, learn new skills and improve wellbeing.

Local residents can get involved through membership, volunteering or sponsoring a tree helping to create a lasting green space for the benefit of the whole community.

Find out how to get involved, become a member or sponsor a tree by visiting crowboroughcommunityorchard.org.

Crowborough Community Pantry

Crowborough Community Pantry is open to everyone and supports both the planet and the local community by sharing donated food that would otherwise go to waste. Food is donated by local supermarkets, independent retailers and growers, including gardeners and allotment holders with surplus produce.

The Pantry operates from Beechview Parade, Walshes Road, Crowborough (TN6 3RA) and opens several times a week to make it as accessible as possible.

Although the service is free, visitors are encouraged to make a voluntary donation of £2 per bag. Donations help cover running costs such as insurance, support volunteers, and enable the Pantry to offer chilled and frozen food — preventing even more waste.

For updates on available food and opening times, visit the Crowborough Community Pantry Facebook page.

Food Directory

The food we eat — and how it’s grown, produced, transported and sold — has a significant impact on the planet. Eating more sustainably doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, and small local choices can make a real difference.

Crowborough is fortunate to have a wide range of high-quality food and drink producers nearby. To help support local, sustainable choices, we’ve created a directory of local producers, all based within roughly a 10-mile radius of Crowborough.
